Americas - United States of America Falconers Laws
Falconry in the United States is controled on a Federal level. Looking for European Legislation? The Federal Law designates raptor species that can be used for falconry and set standards for keeping these raptors. A special licence is required and can be obtained through the Fish & Wildlife department after succesfully passing a test. To qualify for a test you need to be sponsored by a licensed falconer. Your local Fish & Wildlife department can provide a list of local falconers and clubs. Following the exam facilities and equipment will be inspected and, if found adequate, certified after which you will get your licence. Three levels of experience are recognized:
* Apprentice - 14 years or older, last minimum of two years, one bird per season only, limited to taking a red-tailed hawk, American kestrel and Northern Goshawk (Alaska only).
* General - 18 years or older, maximum of two birds
* Master - minimum of five years of experience as a general falconer, maximum of three birds
These laws are quite different from European laws. I have summarized the European laws here |
